R v Markham and Edwards - Nottingham Crown Court

Conspiracy Solicitors represented fourteen year old Lucas Markham, who together with his thirteen year old girlfriend Kim Edwards, murdered Kim’s mother and sister in cold blood at their home address.

They were both originally given 20 - year minimum custodial terms, however, had them reduced by Court of Appeal judges to 17 and a half years each.

The case was widely reported in the National press and the pair became Britain’s youngest double murderers at the age of 14 years.

They were dubbed the “Twilight Murderers” as it transpired from the evidence at Edward’s trial that following the murders they remained in the house eating ice cream and watching three of the Twilight vampire movies.

A court ban on naming the two teenagers was lifted by Mr Justice Hadden-Cave but thereafter, their identities remained secret to allow the Conspiracy legal team to appeal against the ruling in the High Court by way of Judicial Review.

Solicitor Stuart Wild was assisted on the case by barrister Mr Nigel Edwards and Mr Simon Myerson QC, both of St Pauls Chambers, Leeds.
